The Franklin County Sheriff's Office presents "Bikes and Badges"! Saturday, May 31, 2025 Rend Lake Spillway Parking Lot Participants will learn bike safety skills, get free safety checks, and have fun! There is no cost to participate. This program is designed for kids ages 6+ but all ages are welcome! Please bring a bike! An optional guided 1-mile bike ride will take place after the bike safety program. There will be three sessions to choose from: 10 a.m. Noon 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call (618) 724-2493. Here are the results of the survey regarding a proposed amendment to the livestock ordinance. The survey was open for two months and gained 110 responses. Of those 110 respondents, 100 live in city limits. 91 said they were at least somewhat familiar with the current ordinance. 93 respondents indicated their feelings (positive or negative) toward the current ordinance, with 21 indicating they approved of the ordinance as it stands now and 70 indicating they would like to see it changed. Of the 93 respondents who indicated their feelings toward the current ordinance, 91 responded to the question of what they would like to see changed. Of those, 74 indicated they would like to allow residents to own chickens, 15 said they would not want to see it changed, and 1 resident said the ordinance was not restrictive enough.
